How to make a Centred Flower Display

3. The Centred Arrangement - ACHILLEA SPLASH

Here is your step-by-step guide to creating a centred dried flower display using a Floribana stand.

Ingredients

x3 Yarrow flower stems Achillea filipendulina [Parker's Variety]

x6 Billy Buttons Craspedia globosa

x6-8 Eucalyptus branches Eucalyptus Populus

Tools: Florist's scissors (fine snipers), secateurs and some stem off-cuts.

InstructionsSteps a) to d): How to make an centred dry flower display

  • a) Position the round flower stand with the 4 largest holes in the centre facing frontwards i.e. when viewed from the front a pattern like the four corners of a square are seen.
  • b) Select the longest 2 eucalyptus branches and insert into the smallest hole just behind the large centre hole. Then choose another 2 branches, slightly shorter, and insert into the central hole.
  • c) Take the 3 achillea stems. Select 1 to be the tallest, then trim the remaining 2 to around two-thirds of this one. Insert these into the centre hole. These will be loose for now until you add more stems.
  • d) Choose 2 shorter stems of eucalyptus and insert these both into the central hole: positioning 1 to the left, and 1 to the right of the tallest achillea.

Steps e) to h): How to make an centred dry flower display

  • e) Take 3 craspedia stems and trim 1 to half the height of the tallest, and the other to around two-thirds of this. Insert the tallest stem into the back of the central hole. Swivel the stem into place to face the left, and then add in the other two stems as shown.
  • f) Repeat step e and look carefully at where the little yellow balls sit in relation to each other, ensuring these spots of colour are evenly distributed throughout. Trim stems as necessary to achieve interest.
  • g) Take the last of the eucalyptus stems and trim to half the height of the tallest. Insert into the centre hole and smallest hole immediately in front. Twist into place to add fullness left and right.
  • h) Make the final adjustments to bring the shape into balance.
