How to make a Symmetrical Flower Display
1. Symmetrical Arrangement - TEASEL VIBES
Here is your step-by-step guide to creating a symmetrical dried flower display using a Floribana stand.
This is a balanced display ideal for more formal areas in the home such as the sideboard or hall console table. The finished piece will be set against a wall and not viewed from behind.
Ingredients
x1 Palm Leaf Chamaerops
x6-8 Wild Teasel Dipsacus fullonum [3-4 large or paired heads; 3-4 single, small heads]
x8 Silver Grass Miscanthus/Stipa Feather
Tools: Florist's scissors (fine snipers), secateurs and some stem off-cuts.
Instructions
- a) Position your stand with the long side facing forwards.
- b) Take the palm leaf, trimming the stem by 3-4cm, and insert into the large hole just behind the central hole.
- c) Choose 2 of the longest teasel stems and insert together into the central hole in the stand.
- d) Take another 2 teasel stems and trim to two-thirds the height of the central teasel stems. Insert one facing left into the second hole from the centre, and one to the right of the central hole.
- e) Stablise the teasel and move into position by using stem off-cuts. This technique can be used for stablising any part of your arrangement. Using the tension between stems you can choose which direction each face.
- f) Choose 4 of the longest miscanthus stems, trimming 2 of these by roughly a third. Then insert along the row of 4 holes just behind the largest holes: placing the tallest towards the middle and the shorter two either side.
- g) Then trim any remaining miscanthus to various shorter lengths. Insert into any of the holes where there is already a miscanthus stem and twist them into position so that they flop forwards.
- h) Finally, using 3 small teasel heads, trim 2 to the same height and insert into the smallest holes just forward from the central hole. The last, and shortest teasel can be inserted in the centre-forward of the arrangement.
